info about photos

How to supply photographs?

Please deliver your photographs in their original format, as seperate files. (so no pasting into Word-, Powerpoint or other type of documents!)

Don't alter the originals, however tempting it might be.

Cut-outs, color or contrast corrections, red-eye-removal, enlarging or shrinking…
Chances are the quality of the picture will suffer. And I can't reverse this.

Decreased quality shows through blurriness, more noise, weird colorshades around welldefined objects,…

How can you be sure your photos are suitable for printing?

You can't just take photos from a website. Even if you have permission to use this material, the images are rarely suitable for print.
Image specifications for web are very different from print-specifications.

How can you tell images are suitable, without too much technical knowledge?
The easiest way is by looking at the file-size.

- images on websites are usually about 100Kb to 500Kb
- images for use in printing on an A4-sized leaflet: jpg's should be at least 1Mb.
- images for use in printing on large scale (ex. a poster): jpg's should be at least 12Mb.

These are just guidelines and are not universally applicable! Even if your photographs measure up to these guidelines, the quality of the picture might still be too low…

Copyright?

There is a copyright on almost everything!
This also goes for images on websites. There is no need for a ©-symbol for a copyright claim to be valid.
So it's not a good idea to just grab something off a website.
There are affordable alternatives (stockphotography websites) but also willing suppliers who can provide you with high quality photos of their products or services.
